Door opens randomly mid-print? The external power supply fix

Small part, annoying problem. FarmLoop originally drew its power from the printer’s AMS port. In rare cases, power fluctuations on that port can reset the FarmBoard mid-print — and a board that resets at the wrong moment does strange things.

Symptoms

  • The door opens on its own in the middle of a print
  • The AMS shows red lights while FarmLoop is connected
  • Occasional unexplained FarmBoard resets (settings fine, wiring fine, but behavior is erratic mid-print)

If you’re seeing these, it’s most likely power — not firmware, not wiring.

The fix: an external power supply

The external power supply runs FarmLoop independently of the printer, so AMS-port fluctuations can’t touch the FarmBoard anymore.

  • New kits: every new FarmLoop kit for the A, P and X series ships with the external power supply as standard. It replaces the AMS power cabling — so the AMS Y-cable (4-pin to 6-pin, sometimes called the Molex power cable) is no longer included. If your box has a power supply and no Y-cable, nothing is missing: plug the power supply into the PCB’s power port and a wall socket, and leave the printer’s AMS port alone.
  • Existing setups: if you’re running an older AMS-powered kit and see the symptoms above, you can order the power supply on its own from the shop.
