Stage 1 vs Stage 2, what’s the difference?

Section titled “Stage 1 vs Stage 2, what’s the difference?”

If you’re a long-time customer, some of the older limitations no longer apply with Stage 2 hardware:

Stage 1 (legacy)Stage 2 (current)
Max part height200 mm for P/X seriesNo height limit
Door control (enclosed printers)ManualAutomatic door opener
Toolhead attachmentMagnetic (can pop off on sticky parts)Reinforced
Detachment mechanismPushActive plate bending + push
Best forPLA / PETGPLA / PETG / ABS (thanks to door control)

Existing Stage 1 customers can upgrade, email contact@3d-farmers.com for upgrade-kit pricing.

Push, a linear actuator presses against the back of the part to slide it off the plate. Works for parts with a flat back side and a minimum ~2 mm height.

Lift (A-series only), the actuator lifts the leading edge of the plate, tipping parts off. Handles thinner and more delicate geometry than push.

Active bending (Stage 2), mechanical flex of the plate itself, decoupled from the printer’s own bending. Works even with large flat footprints where push alone can’t overcome adhesion.

  • Stage 1 kits shipped before November 2025 and don’t include the door-opener module or the reinforced bender holder.
  • Stage 2 kits include the bender module with the FarmLoop linear actuator, the door-opener bracket (P/X series), and the reinforced toolhead parts. If you followed the A1 Mini, A1, or P/X-series assembly guide, you’re on Stage 2.
